Doctor Who fans have even more reason to be excited about the show's upcoming 60th anniversary special! On Sunday, it was revealed that David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be reprising their roles next year, and the news of their return has come as a delightful surprise!
Tennant and Tate to feature in 2023 special
Tennant is well-known for playing the "Tenth Doctor" on Doctor Who, while Tate had a memorable role as his companion, "Donna Noble". The pair became a fan favourite duo during their time together in the fourth series of the popular sci-fi show. And while Tennant returned to the Doctor Who universe in audiobook format back in 2020, getting to see him team up with Tate again on-screen is truly a dream come true for many.

As for how the two will factor into the special, Doctor Who's returning showrunner, Russell T Davies, has teased infinite possibilities! "Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback," Davies said in a statement. But while he remained vague about why exactly Tennant and Tate are coming back, he stated that "it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

"The Doctor" is currently played by Jodie Whittaker, who first appeared as the thirteenth incarnation of the character back in 2018. It was recently announced that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will be the next actor to take on the role, following Whittaker's departure later this year. With old favourites returning and another big change on the horizon, there's no question that it's certainly an exciting time to be a Doctor Who fan!
