FOX CEO Charlie Collier broke the news on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) press tour in Los Angeles.

After the 2019 Academy went hostless in February following the controversy around planned host Kevin Hart, which led to Hart ultimately dropping out of the gig, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is now officially heading the same way.

FOX CEO about Emmy host: "Had a lot of names on the board."

This is the first time that the Emmys will go without a host since 2003, when the show also aired on FOX. The network might feel that they could emulate what the Oscars did earlier this year, which actually experienced a 12 percent spike in ratings and found some critical acclaim.

"Obviously, that was a piece of information and it did do very well but I think it’s a pretty unique year for some of America’s favorite shows and it was the right thing to do," Collie said.

When asked if FOX had actually already had a host in mind, Collier replied:

"We’ve had a lot of names on the board [internally] but the conclusion was reached this year that we’re highlighting so many shows going away that it was a better use of the time [to focus on the shows]," he said. "There will be entertainment. There will be an opening number. If you look at the trade-offs in a show like the Emmys, so often its a trade-off between the opening acts and using the time elsewhere."

The Oscars are a definitive "No" for the comedian

Kevin Hart: "I'm over it."

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will be held Sept. 22, 2019, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
