Ed Asner, the long-lived actor from the golden age of television and film, has sadly passed away.
He lived to be 91 years old. Asner's family announced his passing on Aug. 29 on the star's personal Twitter page.

"We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully," the Asner family wrote. "Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you."
Born Eddie Asner in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1929, the actor got his start on the stage in the 1950s before making the move to television and film.
Asner's legendary acting career included over 400 roles in films and TV series dating back to 1957. His most famous role was probably as "Lou Grant" on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off in the 1970s and '80s.
He also had well-known TV roles on the miniseries Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man, and he guest starred on an endless number of series.
In films, he had memorable parts in El Dorado, Elf, and JFK, to name just a few. He also did extensive voice acting, with his most celebrated work coming as "Carl" in Pixar's Up.
With his legendary body of work, Asner earned the most Primetime Emmy wins ever by a male actor, with seven. He was also known for his generous philanthropic work with groups including The Ed Asner Family Center.
He'd continued acting right into 2021, appearing just this year in series including Cobra Kai and Grace and Frankie.
