Angelina Jolie is no stranger to philanthropic work, but the A-list actress is taking the American government by storm, and pushing for serious change to protect millions of women against violence. Read on to learn the details!

Angelina Jolie is one strong woman! Not backing down from her goals and philanthropic work, Jolie heads to Capitol Hill to make sure that her voice is heard.

On Tuesday, the Eternals actress spoke to a U.S. representative for Missouri's congressional district about the Violence Against Women Act, something Jolie has been very vocal about.

Cori Bush, a congresswoman who spoke with Jolie about the VAWA, said that she was blown away by the Oscar winner. Jolie headed up to Capitol Hill to make sure that her voice was heard about this serious topic.

Bush tweeted, "She’s so informed," following their meeting, and posted a photo of Jolie. She also wrote that she was "forever grateful" for such a powerful woman to be so passionate about ending domestic violence.

Jolie posted her own statement to Deadline, writing, "I'm in D.C. leading up to the VAWA reauthorization, FBI reforms, and other important protections and rights."

She continued, "I've met with experts for years now, learning about best practices, including non-biased forensic evidence collection, and advocating for improvements. I'm grateful for these timely and valuable meetings with senators, especially focused on provisions for children’s health."

Senator Mitt Romney also posted photos with the actress, and said that he was grateful for her work and "continued advocacy for the vulnerable".

In 1994, President Bill Clinton established the VAWA, which hoped to ensure a federal-level prosecution for those guilty of domestic violence. It read that "provisions for federal-level prosecution of interstate domestic violence and sexual assault crimes, as well as support for shelters, rape crisis centres, and community organizations" should be provided.

However, the VAWA expired in 2018 and has yet to be put back in place. Jolie hopes to change that.
