Betty White's death on December 31 came as a shock, but new details suggest that an incident just days before ended up causing it. The legendary actress reportedly suffered a stroke less than a week beforehand, which is said to have resulted in her passing.
White's death due to "cerebrovascular accident"
White's cause of death was initially reported by TMZ and then confirmed by Entertainment Tonight. The outlet mentions that according to the star's death certificate, "a cerebrovascular accident" is what ultimately caused her to pass away. The incident occurred on December 25, with White said to have been "alert and coherent" afterwards.
However, it does not seem as though White's agent, Jeff Witjas, was privy to this information before its release. Instead, he made a statement to Entertainment Tonight where he shared his own account of things. Witjas mentioned that he "was told that Betty passed in her sleep peacefully without pain," which he shared "brings me comfort as her dear friend."
White received many emotional tributes from stars on social media after her passing, whether they had worked with her or simply been moved by her work. And with what would have been her 100th birthday coming up, fans will be able to celebrate the Hollywood legend's life with the new documentary being released in her honour!
