Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell got married under unusual circumstances, so it's not surprising that the way they celebrated was also out of the ordinary! As Entertainment Tonight shares, Irwin and Powell— who are currently expecting their first child together— made a virtual appearance on Wednesday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where they talked about what it was like getting married at the Australia Zoo last summer.

Irwin says she and Powell are "just glad to be married"

Powell revealed to Clarkson that the couple didn't end up taking a traditional honeymoon after their wedding, since zoo duties still called! "It was crazy because Australia Zoo was actually temporarily closed for a period of time during the pandemic," he explained. "So we got married and then our honeymoon was taking care of 1,200 animals with no guests coming in. So it was a wild time."

Irwin then chimed in, sharing how grateful she was that they were able to tie the knot in the midst of everything going on! "It was really crazy. You always plan your wedding with lots of guests and I think it was just us and the animals," she said. "Very, very small. But it was really, really special. We're just glad to be married and to be husband and wife while taking on this wild 2020 and new 2021."

Bindi's brother "felt so honored" by her wedding request

Irwin and Powell were also joined on the show by Bindi's mom Terri and brother Robert! Terri called her daughter's wedding "a silver lining", while Robert reflected on why it was extra emotional for him. "It was amazing. It was definitely just one of the most incredible moments of my entire life," he shared. "I felt so honored when Bindi first asked me to walk her down the aisle."

However, he said that he also felt a mix of emotions about being the one to do so. "I think, for me, I was incredibly emotional at the same time. Not only being so proud for Bindi and [having] such a happy day, but also thinking how much I wish that Dad could've been there," Robert continued. "That was his job to walk her down the aisle. But I felt very honored to be there, I guess sort of on his behalf. I think we definitely felt him on the day."

Instead of taking Powell's last name, Bindi decided to keep her own as a sweet tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin. The Crocodile Hunter star's presence was also felt during the ceremony in various other ways, including the khaki ribbon that Bindi's bouquet was tied with!
