Bryshere Gray was perfectly cast for Lee Daniels' Empire as the up and coming hip hop artist in the "Lyon" family, considering he is a real-life rap artist! Meet Empire's, Bryshere Gray.

Bryshere Gray Empire Star

Bryshere plays "Hakeem Lyon" the youngest son of "Lucious Lyon" (Terrence Howard). "Hakeem" is talented and his family invests in him to become a superstar hip hop artist. Unfortunately, his own impulsive nature causes him to get in his own way.

He's a perfect example of an out of control artist whose ego is bigger than his actual talent. In reality, Bryshere is an actual rapper titled Yazz the Greatest! Yazz has performed at countless music festivals and has been signed with Columbia records.

The Sagittarius was raised in West Philadelphia (like the Fresh Prince!) who used to use his talents to street perform as a child to help with his mother's expenses. His dedication to his work served him well as he was able to portray Michael Bivins in The New Edition Story!

Bryshere is a charming personality so he has frequently been featured on television to promote Empire on broadcasts like Entertainment Tonight, Good Morning America, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Celebrity Name Game, The Real, The Wendy Williams Show, and Live with Kelly and Ryan

His career as a rapper has also been growing since performing for the series but unfortunately, he does have a few similarities with his character "Hakeem"... He has gotten into trouble a few times in the public eye. According to the Chicago Tribune earlier this year he was sued by his landlord for over $30,000 of inappropriate damage.

He is also in the midst of a domestic violence charge according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 911 call allegedly led to a standoff between the actor, SWAT, and crisis negotiations officers before he was finally taken into custody but has been silent on the matter since.

We'll have to wait and see if he turns around his career and behavior in the future. fingers crossed for both "Hakeem" and Bryshere!
