Daniel Caesar was born Ashton Dumar Norwill Simmonds on April 5, 1995 in the Canadian city of Oshawa, Ontario. The R&B singer first landed on people's radar back in 2014, when he dropped his first EP Praise Break. In 2017, Caesar released his debut album Freudian through independent record label Golden Child.

Freudian was a hit in Canada as well as worldwide, and won Caesar a Juno for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year! A few months after releasing the album, Caesar headed out on his first major tour, which took him across the globe. He has received several Grammy nominations, and brought his mom Hollace Simmonds to the awards in 2019.
