On Thursday, Eva Mendes shared a photo on Instagram that described a late night on her daughter's birthday. Mendes and partner Ryan Gosling's daughter, Amada Lee, turned 4, so she put in extra effort for the at-home birthday party.

Her post read: "Tired Mama. Stayed up laaate trying to make my baby's 4th birthday extra special since she won't see the family. Here's to all you having a quarantine birthday ...sending extra love. Here's to all you tired mamas ... sending extra love."

Some users, however, took issue with the phrasing and focus of the post - which singled out the hard work of mothers, rather than fathers or other caregivers.

"Single dads out here doing the same for his little girl too. Just to appreciate the loving strong willed Dads TOO," read the top comment on the post.

Mendes sought to clarify her post by saying "Awww of course! Much respect. I just figured most people on my page are moms. But of course to all dads and all caregivers!" she continued. "(I was on 3 hours sleep when I wrote this surprised I made any sense at all). Sending love to dads who are putting in the work!!! Have a great day!"

The dad of Mendes's daughter, of course, is actor Ryan Gosling. He wasn't spotted in the photo, however. Despite the mention of her daughter's birthday, the actress seldom shares private photos with her family.

Still, another user added that Mendes should "stop assuming it's always the female that carry all the home's work load."

The actress once again addressed the complaints, saying: "Sorry, but it's mostly women who follow me on this page. I like to connect to the women. It's just my nature. I'm a girl's girl. Has absolutely nothing to do with 'stereotyping.'"

"Sending love to you, to all the tired papas and all the tired caregivers from this tired mama," Mendes added.

Everyone, it seems, was able to give voice to their concerns. Mendes expressed where she was coming from and gave an adjusted shoutout to those who took issue with her phrasing.

Amada Lee Gosling turned 4 on Wednesday. Mendes and Gosling also share daughter Esmerelda Amada, 5, together.
