Ty learned woodworking and began teaching himself about carpentry and home improvement at a very young age, but he also majored in art and history.

Ty Pennington helped rebuild more than 200 homes for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and after the show's conclusion seven years ago, he moved to New York City where he was cast in the lifestyle-based talk show The Revolution. Then in 2014 he appeared in TNT's On the Menu alongside Emeril Lagasse, and from 2015 to 2016 he was part of Food Network's American Diner Revival. Good news is that two years ago it was announced that he was joining the cast of the revival of Trading Spaces, which was released in April 2018.
