Born on April 18th, 1953 in Canada, Rick Moranis actually started his entertainment career as a radio disc jockey in the '70s. From there, he was able to network with various writers and performers and create comedy sketches both on radio and Canadian TV throughout the 1980s. His breakthrough on the silver screen was in 1984's Ghostbusters, and then starred in another film hit in 1987's Spaceballs

In 1997, Rick famously took an extended break from acting. Many thought he was retired, but instead, he was taking care of his two children as a widower. He was previously married to costume designer Anne Belsky in 1986, however she tragically died of cancer in 1991. 

In an interview with USA Today in 1997, he stated:

"I'm a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn't miss it."

Today, Rick Moranis is much pickier about the roles he chooses to take part in. He opted out of 2016's remake of Ghostbusters, because it didn't make sense to him, he told The Hollywood Reporter. But, he will be starring in the new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot on Disney+, titled Shrunk

This is a reboot we're definitely looking forward to! The nearly 70 year-old actor will also be starring in an upcoming Martin Scorsese documentary - An Afternoon with SCTV - which is the television sketch comedy that Moranis worked on in the '80s. The film will premiere on Netflix in 2020!
