Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's first date could have had a very different outcome! As People shares, Stefani and Shelton starred in a new ad that aired during the Super Bowl, which imagines their first date being the result of a communication error— and a matchmaking effort from Adam Levine!

Stefani's message to Levine gets mixed up over the phone

Stefani is shown sitting by the pool at the beginning of the commercial, which is for phone company T-Mobile and supposedly takes place "a few years ago". Over FaceTime, she tells Levine that she's ready to get back into the dating game, listing off the characteristics she's looking for in a potential new guy. However, her message gets a bit scrambled due to a bad phone connection on Levine's end!

The ad then cuts to the Maroon 5 singer at a bar, with a voice-over explaining how he only heard part of the conversation! Instead of what Stefani told him— "someone from another country and someone cultured and sensitive and who is not threatened by a strong, confident woman"— Levine thinks she wants "someone completely country, uncultured, and threatened by a strong, confident woman"!

Shelton finds himself turned down by Stefani in commercial

Shelton then appears, enthusiastically crowing about "wings and nachos" to Levine, which leads him to tell Stefani that he has the guy for her. But when Stefani sees Shelton turns up to her date, she appears completely shocked— and not at all interested! "Oh my god, hilarious, right?" she says. "I mean... no."

While the commercial is only a fictional interpretation of how their relationship began, Stefani has revealed that she didn't actually know who Shelton was until the two met as coaches on The Voice back in 2015! And even though they got engaged in October, the No Doubt singer shared she won't get married during the pandemic because her family won't be able to be there.
