Jameela Jamil is taking back her power

Jameela Jamil recently shot for Playboy, redefining what it means for a woman to grace the pages of the notoriously sexualized magazine.

The Good Place star will be seen wearing a white button down blouse, tie, and various other androgynous looks.

The actress paired her looks with long wavy hair, and her signature makeup look - winged eyeliner and a bold lip.

On Thursday Jamil shared some photos of the shoot to her Twitter, saying that she wanted to feel “completely unsexualized".

Despite the magazine having a reputation for the sexualization of women, Jamil got her wish.

Jamil, who guest edited the Playboy issue said, “I wanted to be shot like a man."

She continued, “No retouching, hi res, loose, comfortable clothes and completely unsexualized. I felt extremely free.”

In the Playboy issue, Jamil also got candid about her mental health, sharing her battles with depression and eating habits.

I didn’t identify that I had depression, because I wasn’t crying all the time; I wasn’t lying down eating ice cream under a blanket. It was a complete lack of emotion," she said.

"It was a complete lack of care about myself, about other people, about anything. That’s what my breakdown felt like, that I wasn’t attached to anything or anyone," she continued.

Jamil said her depression culminated in two separate suicide attempts. The actress said learning to live her “complete truth all the time” has helped her cope, as well as sharing her story.

The actress will be featured in the Spring 2020 Playboy issue.
