Jenna-Louise Coleman (36) was born and raised in Blackpool, England and was already part of a theatre company while at school. As she was auditioning for different drama schools in 2005, she was actually cast in her first role for a successful soap opera.

She started playing the role of "Jasmine Thomas" on Emmerdale in 2005 (alongside stars like Charley Webb) and was even nominated as Most Popular Newcomer at the 2005 National Television Awards. During her final year on Emmerdale in 2009, she was nominated as Best Actress at the British Soap Opera Awards.

She went on to star in the BBC drama series Waterloo Road (2009) and the mini-series Room at the Top and Titanic (both in 2012) and got another big break in 2012, when she was cast as "Clara Oswald", the companion of the eleventh Doctor Who, played by Matt Smith. 

She played "Clara" until 2015 and appeared in another Doctor Who special in 2017, but her biggest project to date, which propelled her to real stardom, came in 2016, when she got the part in a big historical drama series.

Jenna Coleman: Queen Victoria is her biggest role yet!

Ever since 2016, she has been playing the main role of Queen Victoria in the ITV drama Victoria, which airs on PBS in the United States and has gone through three seasons already. It was confirmed in 2019 that there will be a fourth season of the show but that it might take a while. For her portrayal of Victoria, Coleman won the Nymph Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama TV Series in 2017 and was nominated for many more awards as well.

She has also starred in the four-part BBC drama The Cry in 2018 as "Joanna Lindsay" and has since returned to her theatre roots as well: She played "Ann Deever" in the 2019 staging of the play All My Sons by Arthur Miller at the Old Vic Theatre in London.
