John Boyega is using his platform to stand up against systematic racism. As People reports, Boyega took to Twitter on Wednesday to share an image of George Floyd, a black man from Minneapolis who was brutally killed by police officers while being arrested.

The black and white photo of Floyd is accompanied by the words "Please, I can't breathe," which is what Floyd told officers as they stood on him during his arrest. "This just burns. Seems to be a never ending cycle. The murderers need to be charged severely," Boyega tweeted. "Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy."

Boyega also posted another tweet shortly afterwards, where he didn't mince words when it came to getting his messge across. "I really f— hate racists," he wrote. Then, he replied to a comment on the tweet, explaining that he specifically meant "WHITE on BLACK racism. The kind that has ruined the world."

As People mentions, some Twitter users criticized Boyega— who has a younger following due to his role as "Finn" in the recent Star Wars trilogy— for being so vocal about his hatred of racism. Boyega was quick to defend his pointed reactions. "This is my own personal account. I am not here for the kids," he wrote in response to one such message.

While replying to another Twitter user, Boyega questioned if those criticizing him were really reading his words. "Are you guys on twitter dedicated to seeing what’s in your head and not what I wrote? Take a break because you’re one of them. As i said you can’t force me to talk about what I’m not talkng [sic] about."

Boyega didn't just leave his comments to Twitter. As People shares, he also vocalized his anger towards racism on Instagram. "[If] you think someone like me is gonna back down, that’s very, very mad. It’s very important that we ignore ignorance, that we ignore people that come through and try to make these situations what they’re not," he said during an Instagram live video. "So I say it again, f— you racist white people. I said what I said."

"A black man was just murdered in cold blood in the streets stateside again while saying that he can’t breathe. That’s a continuous cycle going on. Although I don’t live in the states, because I’m black, f— that," Boyega continued.

He also said that those who claim to be fans of his yet demonstrate racist behaviour are not people whom he wants to engage with. "If you’re a fan of me, and you support my work and you’re racist and you’re arguing with what I was saying," Boyega said, "f—off."
