Kanye West says he's tossing his hat into the ring for the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.

The rapper and fashion designer declared his intention to run for President on his Twitter account late Saturday night.

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!" West wrote, along with the hashtag #2020VISION.

West, 43, has already gained the backing of a few high-profile supporters as well. Kim Kardashian quote tweeted her husband's announcement, adding simply an American flag emoji in her tweet.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is also on board with a Kanye presidential run, tweeting out: "You have my full support!"

Can Kanye West actually run for President now?

If West is serious about his announcement, he'll face hurdles to get himself on the November ballot. As ABC News reports, West would at this time need to run as an independent, and he's already missed the deadline in Indiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Texas.

The outlet also notes the suspicious timing of West's tweet. It comes the same week that he released the first single from his upcoming album, leading some to question if it's a publicity stunt by the "Stronger" rapper.

What this means for West's vocal support of U.S. President Donald Trump also remains unclear. West has used his platform to defend President Trump and even made an infamous visit to the White House while wearing a Make America Great Again hat in 2018. As recently as an April 2020 interview with GQ, he implied that he would vote for Trump in the 2020 election.

West had previously hinted at his intention to run in the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, but it appears as though he's now sped up those plans. Time will tell what (if anything) comes of the Yeezy 2020 and #2020VISION announcement.
