Being a celebrity means so many people are privy to all your personal information, and Kelly Clarkson is making sure she's protecting her kids from outsiders amid her divorce.

The singer opened up in a recent interview about how she and her family are managing during this difficult time, and she's remained true to her sentiment that her kids are her priority.

Kelly Clarkson opens up about divorce

Kelly Clarkson is protecting her kids against the outsiders commenting on her divorce. In her latest interview with Entertainment Tonight, Clarkson shares what it's been like during her split from Brandon Blackstock.

Clarkson admits that she's trying to find a balance between sharing with her fans and viewers how she's coping and dealing with this new change in her life, and how she's protecting those she loves most - her two kids.

"The thing that's been kind of hard to navigate is I am an open book, but at some point, I'm a mama bear more than I am a person in the public eye," she said.

"I care 100 percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet," she added.

Clarkson also revealed she understands that what she says surrounding her divorce does have an effect on her loved ones, including her two stepchildren.

"So that's been the hard thing of, like, yes, I'm willing to share my experience and, yes, it is the worst," she said. "I mean, the past few months have been horribly sad. But at the same time, I have to think, 'Hmmm, like, what I say has a domino effect in other people's lives.'"

She added that having children of varying ages poses its own challenges, and being in the public eye has complicated things for the family.

"Having kids that run the gamut of 4 to 19 is a really tough thing," she said, referring to her own two kids, Remington, 4, and River Rose, 6, as well as her stepchildren, Savannah, 18, and Seth, 13, from Blackstock's previous marriage.

"You know, I've had conversations with one of our eldest about how difficult it is in the public eye when your parents are so ... you know, one of them is so prominent and having to navigate that for them is hard on their hearts," she said. "I'm just careful also while being real."

Clarkson then went on to say that the cause of the divorce wasn't anyone's fault, but that "divorce is a really s----y thing" no matter who it happens to.
