Kelly Clarkson has channeled the emotional pain of her divorce into new music! Clarkson recently opened up to Entertainment Tonight about how she's used songwriting to help process her feelings, and revealed she's already working on her next album!

Clarkson has written "like 60 songs" since filing for divorce

Clarkson said that while her upcoming album is "really great and really honest," she's not sure when she wants to put it out in the world just yet! "There's just a lot of questions that I have to answer before releasing it for myself, you know?" she told Entertainment Tonight. "Whether that be business-wise or personally or whatever. Whatever happens though, it is such a gift."

The singer and talk show host filed for divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock back in June and said that music has been a much-needed "outlet" for her, sharing that she's written "like 60 songs" since then! "Anytime you go through some life, it's such an awesome thing to have that outlet, regardless of whether people hear it or not," Clarkson explained.

Clarkson talks about struggling to share "personal" songs

Clarkson went on to acknowledge how it isn't always easy for her to share some of her more "personal" songs. "I hate that I had to go through 'Because of You' or 'Piece by Piece' [moments]," she admitted. "Certain songs that I've written certainly have shaped me, but have been really hard."

However, she said that the response she's received from songs like that has made her want to continue sharing them. "But the other side of you is like, 'Man, how many people have come up to me,'" she said. "Like, 'You have no idea. I never wanted to talk about it, I never have told anyone this.'"

Clarkson says John Legend's album has helped her heal

Clarkson also said that listening to music has helped her through this difficult time as well. "I listen to other artists and music has a way of healing you," she said, sharing that John Legend's album Bigger Love has done exactly that for her. "It's all about that kind of love that you find," Clarkson explained, "that kind of connection you find, and it was so helpful for me."

Last year, Clarkson also talked about how Garth Brooks' song "The Dance" has been instrumental in helping her emotionally process the divorce. "I think sometimes that's so crazy. You don't know that's gonna happen," she said. "You've known this song your entire life and you freak out when it actually is a direct impact."
