Mara Wilson was one of the most recognizable child actresses of the nineties. Her film career began with the comedy Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), starring opposite Robin Williams, and then to the beloved Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street (1994).

In 1996, she starred in one of the most classic films of that decade, Matilda, along with comedian Danny DeVito

Today, Mara Wilson lives in Los Angeles where she focuses on her writing career instead of acting. In fact, she retired from acting long ago in 2000.

Back in 2012, she expressed on her blog page: "Film acting is not very fun. Doing the same thing over and over again until, in the director’s eyes, you “get it right,” does not allow for very much creative freedom."

Although she's no longer in big hit movies, Mara will occasionally do some voice-over acting, like in the adult cartoon series BoJack Horseman and Big Hero 6: The Series. She also has a recurring role in the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, as well as appearing in other podcasts (about cats, no less).

In 2016, Mara published her first memoir, Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame, which looks into her life as a child star and working on set with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Mara has written for The New York Times and Cracked.com and continues to write her life experiences on her blog and social media accounts.
