And for many kids growing up in the 90s, Keaton was the ultimate "Caped Crusader" who defined a new genre of dark and mysterious superhero films that have continued on to this day. DC Studios is looking to expand its film universe with many up and coming productions designed to rival the success of the Marvel Universe films that have been huge box office hits in recent years.

One of the most anticipated films from the DC Universe is the production of the feature film Batgirl, slated to debut exclusively on HBO Max next year. The film will reprise certain actors in the universe like J.K. Simmons, and adding some new ones like Brendan Fraser!

Michael Keaton Back As "Batman"?

But perhaps the biggest news it the potential comeback of Michael Keaton as "Batman". As reported by Cinelinx, a new press kit provided to media by Warner Bros. for its upcoming 2022 slate of movies has confirmed that Michael Keaton is part of the cast for Batgirl.

Although not directly stated by the press material, Keaton is presumably reprising his role. The actor was already set to play the character again in next year’s highly-anticipated blockbuster Flash, alongside fellow "Batman" actor Ben Affleck.

Bringing him into Batgirl is a step further into tying Keaton’s legacy back to a more expansive universe of films, similar to what Marvel have done with the Spiderman franchise.

For many comic book fans, this could be the beginning of an exciting series of movies for the next decade which will surely draw its inspiration from the comic world to drive the films forward. This all adds to the excitement that Robert Pattinson's film The Batman, which will premiere in 2022, is already causing among DC movies fans!

Let's wait and see if Keaton will once again put on the famous cape and cowl to fight criminals in Gotham City!
