Life took an interesting turn when both Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman got cast to play the married couple featured in the Stanley Kubrick film, Eyes Wide Shut, as they were married in real life.

Now, over 20 years later, Kidman is looking back at her time on set, and how her marriage played an important role for her part in the iconic drama.

Nicole Kidman reflects on her marriage to Tom Cruise

In her latest interview with the New York Times, Nicole Kidman reflects on her time spent with the iconic film director Stanley Kubrick, during her 1990-2001 marriage to Tom Cruise.

The film, which is highly sexual and follows the life of a married couple grappling with infidelity, was an interesting portrayal to take on for the married couple, and at the time, Kidman revealed they were "happily married."

After being asked if working on the film brought out any "negative feelings", Kidman said that she wasn't sure if that was what caused the downfall, but shared the two spent time together after shooting laughing, and racing go-karts.

"We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning," she said. "I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to."

The film, which was released in 1999 just two years before the couple called it quits, was Kubrick's last, as he passed away shortly after at just 70 years old.

"We loved working with him," Kidman said of the famous director.

"We shot that for two years," she continued. "We had two kids and were living in a trailer on the lot primarily, making spaghetti because Stanley liked to eat with us sometimes. We were working with the greatest filmmaker and learning about our lives and enjoying our lives on set."

Kidman and Cruise share two children together, Connor, 25 and Isabella, 27. Kidman and Cruise have always maintained to keep their children's lives private. Kidman has since moved on to marry Keith Urban, and they share two daughters Sunday, 12, and Faith, 9.
