Some roles have become Oscar-bait. Many times, actors can attract the attention of the Academy by playing the same real-life royals or presidents of the US. In 1945, Barry Fitzgerald won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as "Father Fitzgibbon" in Going My Way. He was simultaneously nominated for Best Actor for the same performance. The rules were subsequently changed to prevent this from happening again...

Other fictional or real-life characters have garnished more than one Oscar nomination due to the fact that different actors were used each time. Examples include Abraham Lincoln and Howard Hughes. In the movie Titanic, both actresses portraying "Rose DeWitt Bukater" were nominated for their work in the movie. Watch the video above to find out who else earned multiple Oscar nominations!
