In a new interview, Pierce Brosnan opened up about how painting has been a lifelong passion of his! Pierce Brosnan has revealed that painting helped him get through a difficult time! As People shares, Brosnan opened up about his lifelong love of art in an exclusive interview, and shared how the painting he's selling prints of for charity came about!

Brosnan says wife's cancer battle led him to paint again

Brosnan explained he left school at 16 with "nothing but a cardboard folder of drawings and paintings"— and a very different career in mind! "Art saved my life," the actor told People. "I managed to get a job, and I wanted to be a graphic artist. But I discovered acting three years into working at this studio and that was it, the tide turned."

After he became an actor, Brosnan stepped away from painting for some time. However, when his first wife Cassandra Harris was battling cancer, the actor ended up seeking solace in art once more. "It really came to light out of a very hard time in my life," he revealed. "I turned to the world of painting and that gave me a great sense of comfort."

Brosnan talks about what his artistic process looks like

Brosnan went on to share how deciding to pick up the paintbrush again during this time ended up becoming was a turning point in his life as an artist. "Since then it’s matured," he said of his love for painting. "I go to the studio each day even if it’s just to clean the brushes or move the paints around."

The actor then went on to talk about his creative process, which he said "takes a long time because I’m lazy and I don’t paint fast enough." He also admitted that he sometimes finds it hard to complete his works! "Or I get the painting to a certain stage and I fall in love with it," he explained. "But in the end you just have to tackle it—and be fearless."

Brosnan is also selling prints of a painting he made while filming GoldenEye in 1995, and shared how the original came about! "I always set up a studio when I go on location," the actor said. "When I was shooting the action sequences for the movie, the prop master would hand out these packets of ear plugs because of the rifles and the explosions. I found the infographic on the back to be steadily pleasing and compositionally intriguing."

The prints of Brosnan's painting— titled Earplugs— are limited edition pieces hand-signed by the actor, sold in collaboration with Los Angeles-based gallery Seasons. As Brosnan mentions on Instagram, part of the proceeds from the prints will go towards post-foster care organization A Sense of Home. And as People mentions, fans of the actor will be excited to know that he plans to sell prints of more of his work in the future!
