Martin said, "Sexuality is one complicated thing. It's not black and white. It's filled with colors." He continued, "When I was dating women, I was in love with women.

"It felt right, it felt beautiful. You can't fake chemistry — the chemistry was there with them. I wasn't misleading anyone."

In addition, he spoke about experiencing doubts when he dated famous women, such as Rebecca de Alba. He said he was "confused" and hadn't yet come to terms with his sexuality until he came out publicly in 2010.

The "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer also told People that he felt "violated" during an interview when Barbara Walters questioned him about his sexuality in the early 2000s.

"When [Walters] dropped the question, I felt violated because I was just not ready to come out. I was very afraid," said the singer, who today is married to painter Jwan Yosef.

But looking back, Martin said he sometimes wishes he came out in that interview because it "just felt amazing" when he finally did nearly a decade later.

"I want to talk about what I'm made of, about everything that I am," he said. "Because if you hide it, it's a life-or-death situation."
