Selena Gomez doesn't hold back

Selena Gomez has had her fair share of publicity throughout the years, and finally the singer is opening up, sharing intimate details of her personal life and struggles.

During a cover story for Interview magazine, Gomez shed some light on life in the limelight, and what it was like being a child star.

“My intention was never to become a tabloid,” Gomez said. “So when things kind of happened that way, it got out of control. And then I was like, ‘Wait, none of this is true.’"

The star continued, "The way the media has sometimes tried to explain things has made it sound really bad, when in reality there’s nothing wrong with the fact that I needed to go away or that I fell in love. I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative, and it was killing me.”

The 27 year old was often in the tabloids for her on-again-off-again relationship with ex Justin Bieber. Not only was she struggling with her relationship, the star also revealed she has always battled with depression.

“I think it showed people that I was weak in certain moments and that I had troubles,” she said. “Some people just get off on building people up and then trying to bring them down.”

Recently, Gomez also opened up to fellow Disney child actress Miley Cyrus about her bipolar diagnosis.

In her interview with Cyrus, she explains that she had anxiety, panic attacks, and bouts of depression along with conquering lupus.

In 2018, the Disney alum sought treatment for anxiety and depression, and completed a two-week program in New York City as a result of complications from lupus.

This past January, Gomez released her album Rare, marking it her first album in 5 years.

“I wrote it at the beginning of last year and had just gotten out of treatment,” Gomez said of the track.

"It was a moment when I came back, and I was just like, 'I'm ready to go into the studio with people I trust and start working on songs.' There was an air around it where people were very happy because it was like I was going to finally be me," she added.

Interview's April 2020 issue is available world wide April 21.
