- Shannen Doherty has terminal cancer
- Despite the illness, she does not give up
- She wants to look positively into the future
In 2020 Shannen Doherty (50) was diagnosed with breast cancer again. She beat cancer in 2015, but now the cancer is back and this time, it's incurable.
But for the Beverly Hills, 90210 star, there is no reason to give up. She spoke on Good Morning America by saying, "I never want to operate [like I’m dying], I just want to operate as I don’t have things to check off because I’m going to keep fighting to stay alive."
Shannen Doherty: She's not giving up
Her cancer has already reached the fourth stage and is therefore well advanced.“A lot of people who get diagnosed with Stage 4, they sort of get written off. It’s assumed that they cannot work or they can’t work at their full capacity, and that is not true,", she explains further on Good Morning America.
"That is something that I would really like for people to stop assuming and give us a chance to prove them wrong." But the 50-year-old maintains her optimism and joy - she doesn't want to mope around. She's still working as an actress, has projects lined up and doesn't want to be labeled sick.
Shannen Doherty wants to become the longest-living person with cancer
As Shannen continues, she prefers to work today than before and feels it is "more fulfilling". She wants to revolutionize the image of the sad cancer sufferers, as she explained according to People, "I feel like I have a responsibility in my more public life, which I separate from my acting life ... to talk about cancer and perhaps educate people more and let people know that people with stage 4 are very much alive and very active."
You wouldn't even know the actress is currently battling the disease. Her husband even reportedly agrees!
It is precisely this positive attitude that she wants to spread with her new film project and encourages other people to have the same outlook.
In the film List of a Lifetime, she stars alongside Kelly Hu. The film is to be released in October 2021.
Shannen Doherty is positive about the future and has set herself a goal: to be the longest-living person with cancer, as she revealed to Entertainment Tonight.
