Sharon Osbourne is supporting Piers Morgan in his moment of controversy — even if she doesn't agree with all his views.

On Wednesday's episode of The Talk, Osbourne defended Morgan, her longtime friend, against accusations of racism following his much-criticized attack on Meghan Markle and her interview with Oprah Winfrey. Her defense wasn't received well by co-host Sheryl Underwood, however, resulting in a tense exchange.

The Talk: Sharon Osbourne insists Piers Morgan isn't racist

Of Morgan's attack on Meghan's character, Osbourne said: "Did I like everything he said? Did I agree with what he said? No. Everybody goes, 'If you support him, then you must be racist because he's racist.' I'm not racist, neither is Piers racist."

Underwood responded, "What would you say to people who may feel that, while you're standing by your friend, it appears you give validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist — even if you don't agree?"

Tensions began rising at this point, as Osbourne said, "I feel even like I'm about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist? What does it gotta do with me?"

After Osbourne got tearful and dropped a few expletives, Underwood attempted to de-escalate the situation. "Right now, I'm talking to a woman who I believe is my friend. And I don't want anybody here to watch this and say that we're attacking you for being racist," she said. But Osbourne felt it was "too late" and that "that seed's already sown." She added, "Why can't it be: he just doesn't like her? Why does it have to be racist?"

Piers Morgan left GMB after Meghan Markle rant

This week, many have picked sides on Piers Morgan's controversial comments about the Duchess of Sussex's honesty in her interview with Oprah Winfrey. His initial response was that he did not "believe a word" she said — an opinion deemed troubling given she spoke on suicidal thoughts and difficulties with getting help for mental health problems.

Morgan resigned from Good Morning Britain the following day after storming off when he was confronted about his comments. He has since doubled down on his opinion, tweeting: "I said I didn't believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I've had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don't. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I'm happy to die on."

The Duchess herself was also one of the 41,000 viewers to file a complaint with ITV over Morgan's initial rant.
