Sassy Simon Cowell had a great big scare last year when he broke his back in multiple places while riding a brand new electric bike. Now he is opening up about the whole ordeal for the first time since!

Simon Cowell Opens Up About Bike Accident

Hollywood was shocked when news spread about Simon Cowell's serious bike accident back in August. He was rushed to the hospital and endured a 6-hour emergency surgery to fix his back that was broken in multiple places.

Simon also had to step back from being a judge on America's Got Talent while he healed. Now for the first time, he is opening up about the accident and subsequent recovery to Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier.

Simon said, "The first four weeks were the hardest. Because you feel kind of helpless, and it was the first time in my life I've ever felt helpless. Then you're bored and frustrated, and I was in so much pain if I'm being honest with you."

Softy Simon admitted that his 7-year-old son had a big part in taking care of him when he returned from the hospital. "I never would've had this kinda time with Eric before. He was amazing because I was very embarrassed when I got home from the hospital."

"Because I was like the guy from Up the movie, you  know, on one of those walking things with the tennis balls and I was really embarrassed because I've got all these metal rods in my back and screws and he went, 'Dad, you're like Iron Man aren't you?' And I'm like 'Yeah, Iron Man, yeah.'"

Simon Cowell's Back Recovery

Simon explained that his recovery was much faster than he had thought it would be. "Just like the doctor said, you hit this kinda seven, eight-week mark, and it's like it never happened. I mean, literally like that, so there were a lot of pulses. And I didn't catch COVID, so I was lucky."

He is even taking better care of himself and walking at least 5 to 10 miles a day! "I'm healthier now than I was a year ago because of this back injury. One of the things you've got to do is much exercise, to kind of, like, heal... So I actually feel better than I did a year ago!"

The tough judge also added that he broke a rule the doctors gave him before he went on vacation in Barbados. "The doctor said to me, 'There's one thing you cannot do, Simon. You cannot go jet skiing when you're on holiday!' By day two, I was jet skiing again."

The America's Got Talent team got back together to celebrate Simon's recovery and open up virtual auditions for the show one last time. Heidi Klum said, "Doing this online, I feel like it opens the door to so many people that we couldn't see before because they couldn't come to the auditions."

Howie Mandel was proud to declare that he was "the only vaccinated one!" to which saucy Sofia Vergara responded, "Because you're the only old one!" Luckily Simon had Howie's back and said, "You look younger!" Howie hilariously agreed because that was a "side effect" of his vaccine.

We can't wait to see Simon back in on the judge's panel!
