Steve Carell from The Office is one of the most well-known actors in Hollywood these days but it hasn't always been that way. Carell was almost thirty years old when he began to gain recognition in Hollywood. He was born and raised in Massachusetts and is currently 61 years old.

Steve Carell: What did he do before he was famous?

Steve Carell attended Denison University in Ohio and obtained a history degree. After college, he worked as a mail carrier but ended up quitting after seven months because his boss told him that he wasn't fast enough. Carell has always had an interest in performing as he was part of the improvisational comedy group at Denison University.

In the late 1980s, Steve Carell started his performing career by appearing in a children's theatre company and touring with them. In 1991, he performed with The Chicago Troupe in The Second City and then he made his film debut with a very minor role in Curly Sue.

Steve Carell on The Dana Carvey Show

In the spring of 1986, Steve Carell was a cast member of The Dana Carvey Show, which was a short-lived comedy sketch show on ABC. This show is the one that is largely considered to have really started Carell's career in the entertainment industry. He appeared in other short-lived series such as Come to Papa and Over the Top. From 1999 to 2005, Carell was a correspondent for The Daily Show and had a number of regular segments.

Steve Carell and The Office

In 2005, Steve Carell signed a deal with NBC to star as "Michael Scott" in the American version of The Office. He played the lead role in this highly successful television series for a total of 149 episodes from 2005 to 2011. From then on, his career has only continued to flourish.

Steve Carell and his successful career

During and after The Office, Carell has starred in a number of films and shows. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Evan Almighty, Get Smart, Date Night, Despicable Me, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Minions, The Big Short, Battle of the Sexes and most recently Welcome to Marwen in 2018, to name just a few of his very successful roles. 

Carell went back to his television roots starring alongside Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston in the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series The Morning Show in 2019. 

Steve Carell: His Personal Life

Steve Carell has been married to Nancy Carell since 1995. They have shared some of the same credits in films and series and have also created the comedy series Angie Tribeca together. Steve and Nancy have two kids together, one boy and one girl and they are both still active in the entertainment industry today!
