The Big Bang Theory "Amy" made audiences fall in love with her over the show's many seasons. However, before Mayim Bialik was cast as our favorite quirky scientist, she was already a well-established actress and neuroscientist.
Mayim, who was born December 12, 1975, got her start as a child actress in the late 1980s in the horror film Pumpkinhead (1988). The Jewish-American actress would quickly add to her resume with larger roles in TV series including Beauty and the Beast and Webster. By the time Mayim was 18, she had established herself in the acting world but would also continue to do well academically.
The Big Bang Theory "Amy"
The Big Bang Theory "Amy" is the show's favorite neurobiologist and "Sheldon's" (Jim Parson's) main love interest. Just like her character, Mayim Bialik also holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience. In fact, three years before Mayim would join the cast of The Big Bang Theory, "Raj" references the real-life Mayim to the group.
In the episode "The Bat Jar Conjecture", "Raj" describes Mayim as being "very smart" and playing "Blossom" in the 1990s sitcom of the same name. So when Mayim would later join the cast in season four of the series, she was more than perfect for the role!
Mayim Bialik Today
Audiences would turn out to love Mayim Bialik just as much as the rest of the cast, and over the years she would be nominated for a number of awards for the role including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015!
Like most of the cast, Mayim was sad to say goodbye to The Big Bang Theory when it ended in 2019, but the extra time has freed her up to work on new projects such as hosting Celebrity Show-Off and starring in the comedy series Call Me Kat.
Mayim, now 46, has also tried her hand at directing with her film As Sick as They Made Us. You can also find her as a new host of Jeopardy! A truly talented and intelligent actress, she is a great role model for her two teenage sons, Miles and Frederick, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Michael Stone. We sure do miss The Big Bang Theory and "Amy"!
