They Were Famous Before the Olympic Games
For over a thousand years, the ancient Greeks held the Olympic Games. In the nineteenth century, there were a few attempts to revive the Games. Then in 1894, the International Olympic Committee was organized with the first modern Olympic Games being held two years later.
Some athletes who competed in the Olympics during the 20th Century became celebrities afterwards such as the original Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller. Bob Anderson was an Olympic fencer in 1952 and later in his life became a fight choreographer for such films as Star Wars, The Princess Bride, The Mask of Zorro and The Lord of the Rings among other films.
