Tom Selleck recently joined in on a viral challenge that's all about giving back! As People shares, Selleck tipped a server $2,020 as part of the "2020 Tip Challenge," and his extremely generous act was shared by one of his co-stars!

Selleck kept participation in challenge quiet for weeks

Selleck's act of kindness was shared by his Blue Bloods co-star Donnie Wahlberg, who posted about it on Twitter on Wednesday! "I found out that my TV Dad Tom Selleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side!" Wahlberg tweeted, including a picture of the donation and a note that Selleck wrote. "Love ya dad."

The actor also explained that while Selleck participated in the challenge several weeks ago and they'd continued acting together in the police drama, he had only recently found out about his co-star's generous tip! "Tom never mentioned it to me," Wahlberg revealed to People. "We've done three [Blue Bloods] dinner scenes since he did it and he never told me."

Selleck shows gratitude and expresses "hope" for 2020

Selleck may not have announced his random act of kindness to the world, but he explained why he did what he did in the message he left at the New York restaurant! "For Elios, I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg's 'Tip Challenge' with my sincere hope for a better 2020," Selleck's note to the server read. "Thank you all."

As People mentions, the challenge itself— which encourages people to tip their servers $2,020 as a gesture of goodwill for 2020— was started on social media before Wahlberg got involved with it. However, the New Kids on the Block singer was one of the first celebrities to participate in the trend, which gained traction over the course of the year and also saw a donation from Harry Styles!

"I didn’t start it but I’m proud to be part of it," Wahlberg concluded his tweet about Selleck's donation. "To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU." Even though Selleck himself didn't announce the fact he'd joined in on the trend, it's always great to hear about celebrities who are doing good in the world!
