Val Kilmer Recovering From Throat Cancer

The 60-years-young Tombstone actor and his daughter Mercedes gave an interview with Good Morning America to let fans know how he is doing since his major throat cancer surgery. Val Kilmer had a tracheotomy and now speaks with a breathing device that makes him sound dramatically different and raspy.

Val said, "I'm doing great, I feel a lot better than I sound." When it comes to his new voice he said "It's just like any other language or dialect. You have to figure out a way to communicate that's no different than any other acting challenge but it's just a very unique set of circumstances."

The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang star has been filming for two new films, the Top Gun reboot Top Gun: Maverick and Paydirt alongside his 28-year-old daughter in her acting debut. Val and Mercedes play father and daughter in the film as well.

Mercedes said "Playing his daughter was so trippy and perfect. I'm so proud to have been in this film and to have worked on this film like not just because my dad is my actual dad, but because I know you don't really lead with this but you do have now a disability with your voice, and it really meant a lot to me to be able to be involved in this film that centers a disabled actor or an actor with a disability." Val said he was so unbelievably proud to see his daughter's name in the introductory credits like it was "graduation day."

His voice may be different but his attitude and humor are not! When Val was asked what he misses about his old voice he said "That I had one! That I didn't laugh like a pirate." Check out the trailer for Paydirt here:
