Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry have been confused for one another frequently over the years, and now the "Daisies" singer has decided to have some fun with her doppelgänger! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the music video for Perry's latest single "Not the End of the World" was released on Monday, which actually features Deschanel impersonating the pop star!

Deschanel pretends to be Perry in space-themed video

Deschanel plays herself in the video, which starts with her picking up a toy that falls out of Perry's stroller. However, this results in her getting abducted by aliens due to a case of mistaken identity! "No! No! No!" the New Girl actress tries to explain to them. "Sorry. Misunderstanding. I'm Zooey!" However, Deschanel soon realizes that the only way out of her predicament— and to save the world— is to impersonate Perry!

Lip syncing to Perry's song "Not the End of the World", Deschanel-as-Perry wears a variety of crazy costumes and hair pieces straight out of the pop star's closet in the music video, including a blonde-and-blue wig. And as Entertainment Tonight mentions, she does end up ultimately stopping the world's demise— by globally disconnecting the internet!

Deschanel previously called comparison to Perry "annoying"

Deschanel seems to have reversed her stance on how she feels about being told she and Perry look similar, since she was game to star in the singer's out-of-this-world music video! That's because back in 2009, Deschanel mentioned in an interview that the constant comparisons to Perry she was getting were "a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt."

The actress, who also sings in the band She & Him, is currently dating Jonathan Scott of Property Brothers fame! Back in April, Scott talked about being in quarantine with Deschanel, saying that his girlfriend is "the perfect person" to social distance with.

And while Perry originally planned to release her new album Smile in the middle of August, it ended up coming out later that month because of production delays— just a few days after the birth of her daughter, Daisy Dove!
