Dolly Parton has created a new version of her song "9 to 5" that serves as the soundtrack for a brand-new ad! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the re-recorded version of the tune— now called "5 to 9"— sees Parton joyously singing about the hours when employees are off the clock and able to do other jobs in their spare time.

Parton sings about pursuing your passion after work

Parton's ad is for the website-building company Squarespace, and aims to show how people get excited about the side hustles they take on in their spare time. "Working 5 to 9, you've got passion and a vision," she sings, as people dance around in brightly coloured outfits do work they're excited about. "Gonna change your life, do something that gives it meaning."

"5 to 9" is a drastic change in tone from Parton's original "9 to 5", a song that details the struggle of an 8-hour workday. Instead of her singing about a work environment that's "all taking and no giving," the rewritten version suggests that what you work on when you're out of the office should be something you enjoy— and possibly even turn into a permanent job!

Parton says she's "pleased and happy" with new take on "9 to 5"

Parton talked about why she wanted to get involved in the ad on Tuesday, when she appeared on the Today show. "Everybody knows the regular 9 to 5, but the 9 to 5ers are actually not able to work their 9 to 5 jobs now," the singer explained, "so a lot of people kind of are at home trying to do other things."

"I thought it would be a wonderful way to do it and kind of give the new generation a chance to actually be in the commercial," the iconic country singer went on to say. "Just to think that my song is that relevant and to think it could be used in this way, I was really pleased and happy and thought it was clever."
