The legendary English musician Paul McCartney, like the rest of us around the world, had a lot of extra time on his hands while in coronavirus lockdown. Luckily, Sir Paul figured out exactly how to take advantage of the situation.

And what better way to take advantage of it than by recording a brand new studio album! He has announced it and it is almost ready to be released as the eighteenth solo studio album by the Beatles alumni.

Paul McCartney announces new album he recorded in lockdown

The original Beatle announced via social media that he will be releasing McCartney III on December 11th. This will be his first album since 2018's Egypt Station.

Speaking of this new material, Paul confessed that he did not think that the music he was making would become a new album.

He told Rolling Stone, "I was living lockdown life on my farm with my family and I would go to my studio every day. I had to do a little bit of work on some film music and that turned into the opening track. And then when it was done, I thought, 'What will I do next?' I had some stuff I'd worked on over the years, but sometimes time would run out and it would be left half-finished. so I started thinking about what I had."

He admitted, "Each day I'd start recording with the instrument I wrote the song on and then gradually layer it all up; it was a lot of fun. It was about making music for yourself rather than making music that has to do a job. So, I just did stuff I fancied doing. I had no idea this would end up as an album."

2020 will officially be 50 years since he released his first solo material, titled McCartney. Therefore, in this new production McCartney III, Paul has returned to take full charge of its realization, composing all the songs, as well as producing them in their entirety, as he did in his first album.

Recorded earlier in the year in Sussex, McCartney III is primarily built from Paul's live vocals, guitar, piano, bass, drums, etc. On top of digital and CD production, McCartney III will be pressed on vinyl in a few different ways! One will be the standard 180-gram, red vinyl of which only 3,000 hand-numbered copies will be sold, 4,000 copies of white vinyl, and the "333" limited edition of 333 copies that will be pressed on yellow, polka-dotted vinyl made from 33 recycled copies of McCartney and McCartney II

We can't wait to hear it!
