A touching dedication and tribute

Ruth B has always given the world raw and powerful lyrics, and the Edmonton native has yet another ballad to share with the world. Dedicating her latest single, "If I Had A Son," to George Floyd, Ruth B will also be donating to various charities.

The new track focuses on racism, a topic that, while not new to the world, has gripped media outlets and cities following George Floyd's fatal encounter with the Minneapolis police. The video of Floyd calling out to his mama as he says he can't breathe has left an impact on anyone that watched the video.

"I think we all remember where we were and what we were doing the first time we saw the George Floyd video. Its impact on the world is unprecedented," Ruth B wrote on Twitter.

She also confirmed that the proceeds of the song will be donated to various charities that include Campaign Zero, Black Youth Helpline, Hope Ethiopia, and True North Aid.

She also went on to say, "For many it is unfathomable but for Black people everywhere, this is all too real."

The singer also went on to share with Just Jared"'If I Have A Son' is an honest reflection of how I have been feeling. The murder of George Floyd has served as a wake-up call for a lot of people, but for Black people everywhere, this has always been a reality."

She continued, "I hope that one day we live in a world where I don’t have to be afraid to have kids solely because of the colour of their skin. It has been awe-inspiring to see the unity and change that is already happening because of George Floyd. I pray for justice for all."
