"Pause For Effect"

The Meaning Behind 'The Bodyguard' Theme Song

The Bodyguard wasn't well-received by the critics but audiences had something else to say. While the jury is still out on the value of the film itself, there is no question that Whitney Houston's smash hit song from the film is engrained into the consciousness of the public.

Whitney Houston was born in 1963 and achieved fame in the mid-80s. Besides The Bodyguard, Houston has acted in and recorded songs for two other films: Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher's Wife. For the pop version of "When You Believe" from the film The Prince of Egypt, Whitney collaborated with Mariah Carey and the song would go on to win the Oscar. Even though Whitney Houston is gone, the song "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard will live on. Watch the video above to learn more about the song itself.
