Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are mourning the death of influential African activist Desmond Tutu. On Monday, the couple made a special Instagram post through their nonprofit Archewell that celebrated Tutu's life, including a throwback to the moment they met him.

Harry and Meghan first talked about Tutu's notable qualities and achievements. “Archbishop Tutu will be remembered for his optimism, moral clarity and cheerful spirit," they shared. "He was an icon for racial justice and beloved across the world." The couple then talked about the very special moment they met the archbishop back in 2019.
“It was only two years ago that he held our son, Archie, when we were in South Africa - "Arch and The Arch," he had joked, his infectious laughter ringing through the room, relaxing anyone in his presence," the statement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued. "He has remained a friend and is sorely missed by everyone."
Harry and Meghan captured this moment with a touching photo that shows them with both Archie and Tutu. "I think Archie will look back at that in so many years and understand that right at the beginning of his life he was fortunate enough to have this moment with one of the best and most impactful leaders," Meghan said, calling it "really special."
The archbishop died on December 26, 2021 at the age of 90. Harry and Meghan are not the only royals who have mourned the freedom fighter publicly. Princess Charlene of Monaco also shared an emotional message on Instagram a day prior as she mourned the loss of Tutu, who she referred to as a "dear friend" of hers.
