Queen Elizabeth II (95) is a self-confessed dog lover - she is particularly fond of the Corgi breed. The monarch has always surrounded herself with her four-legged friends and still goes for a walk with them to this day. At the age of 95, the Queen has now gotten a new little furry friend!

The Queen's new puppy is a Cocker Spaniel

For once, the new puppy by the Queen's side is not a Corgi, but a Cocker Spaniel, as the DailyMail reports. The puppy is no ordinary dog, but a genuine award winner. She won the Kennel Club's Cocker Spaniel Championship, a feat that no dog in the Palace has won.

The four-year-old dog is named Lissy in honor of the Queen, who celebrates her 70th anniversary on the throne in 2022. Nevertheless, the choice of dog breed surprises royal experts. Ever since Queen Elizabeth was 18, she has been the owner and breeding dogs of her favorite breed, the Corgi. More than 30 different four-legged friends have been with the Queen throughout her life.

When The Queen Passes: This Is What Will Happen

Queen Elizabeth II stopped breeding the animals a few years ago because she doesn't want to leave a dog behind after her death, as reported by The Telegraph.

The British royals are all animal lovers. They especially like horses and dogs.

One family that would probably have taken in the Cocker Spaniel Lissy is the Cambridges. Unlike the Queen, Lissy would not have been her first dog of this breed. Do you remember Lupo? Prince William's (39) and Duchess Kate's (40) family dog was their favorite. Sadly he passed away in 2020. For nine years he accompanied the couple in starting their family.

In 2021, Kate and William got another Cocker Spaniel, like Lupo with black fur. It seems the royals are staying true to their favorite dog breeds. The only exception is probably little Lissy, who certainly won the Queen's heart in no time.

This change has probably been nice for the Queen. After a tough year in 2021 with the death of her husband Prince Philip († 99), the split between Prince Harry (37) and the royal family as well as the allegations of sexual abuse against her son Andrew (61), she certainly deserves some happiness! A walk with her dogs will definitely give her a breath of fresh air.
