2018 was THE year for royal weddings with Duchess Meghan (37) and Prince Harry (34) tying the knot in May and Princess Eugenie (28) and Jack Brooksbank exchanging nuptials in October. Prince William (36) and Duchess Kate's (36) wedding is still counted as one the most elegant of the last decades.

There's no doubt about it, Kate's wedding dress is the best royal wedding dress in recent history. She looked stunning wearing a dreamy long veil and with her hair set in gentle waves. Although her wedding look has been celebrated as one of the best of all time, her wedding hairstyle was actually daring for a soon-to-be member of the Royal Family and Kate got in trouble with the Queen

A modern hairdo for a modern wedding

Why? You might well ask. Well, Kate wore her hair in loose waves on her wedding day, but, for members of the Royal Family, a sleek undo is the norm. In a new documentary about Kate and William's wedding, William & Kate: The Journey, reporter Ashley Pearson reveals that Kate was told that Kensington Palace would prefer her to wear her hair up. Duchess Catherine chose to ignore the royal advice she was given.

Pearson goes on to explain that "Kate had her heart set on wearing her hair down with long flowing curls, which is her favourite way to wear it — and actually William’s favourite as well".

In the end, Kate's hairdo was a half-up, half-down affair, the perfect compromise!
