The end of March is quickly approaching and with it, the official exit of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan from the royal family comes. After March 31, Harry and Meghan will no longer be senior working members of the royal family and they will no longer be using their HRH titles.
At the moment they technically don't have a surname because of the HRH titles, but what will their surnames be starting April 1?
Will Duchess Meghan become Meghan Markle again?
In the past, the royals have used the names of their dukedoms as a last name. Harry used Wales as a surname in school and in the military, Prince George and his younger siblings use the surname Cambridge in school, for example.
So while Harry and Meghan could simply keep using Sussex, Harry could also go back to using Wales and Meghan could start using her maiden name Markle again. This sounds like a good option, since she is best known as Meghan Markle.
There is also a third option, which would mean that the family-of-three will share the same surname. Their son Archie's surname is Mountbatten-Windsor, which is the official last name of the royal family and usually used by all family members without a title. So Meghan and Harry could also start using Mountbatten-Windsor as a surname after March 31.
