Meghan Markle is reportedly both hurt by Jessica Mulroney's actions and disturbed that her name has been attached to headlines surrounding her friend.

Mulroney, who has long been identified as Duchess Meghan's closest friend, has faced repercussions after threatening to sue social media influencer Sasha Exeter over an exchange regarding support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In the fallout of the incident, Mulroney's actions have been called tone-deaf at best and racist at worst. Mulroney has since been fired from Good Morning America and had her reality TV show cancelled.

Meghan Markle's feelings on Jessica Mulroney scandal revealed

Now, a report shared exclusively with The Daily Mail has revealed Meghan's feelings on the situation.

"Meghan is absolutely mortified that she's been dragged into this complete mess. She said Jessica is in no way a racist, but the way she handled the situation (with the fashion influencer) was tone-deaf and heartbreaking," a close friend of Meghan's told The Daily Mail.

And while Meghan reportedly believes her long-time friend isn't a racist, she's not expected to associate publicly with Mulroney any longer.

"Meghan said friends reflect friends and because of what's at stake she can no longer be associated with Jessica, at least not in public. She has to do what she has to do in order to preserve her dignity and her own reputation," the source said.

The Duchess of Sussex has reason to be mortified, too, seeing as she's an activist for racial equality.

Meghan Markle has supported the Black Lives Matter protests

Most recently, Meghan made headlines for speaking out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.

Meghan has also been open in the past about her experience as a biracial woman. At the height of the protest movement, a video resurfaced that showed her addressing the topic in a 2012 interview.

"Most people can't tell what I'm mixed with and so much of my life has felt like being a fly on the wall. And so some of the slurs I've heard or the really offensive jokes, or the names, it just hit me in a really strong way," she said in the 2012 video.

But now, not only has Meghan's name been lumped into headlines with her friend, but Mulroney's apology to Exeter referenced Meghan, saying, "I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and center. It was deeply educational."

Despite Mulroney's attempt to lean publicly on her past friendship with Meghan, the Daily Mail's source added that they "wouldn't be surprised" if this is the "beginning of the end of their friendship" behind closed doors as well.
