- Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan to attend NAACP Image Awards
- Harry and Meghan are receiving a special honour at the event
- Harry and Meghan will be in the company of several big stars
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry's appearance at this year's Oscars has been speculated for some time. While the couple have not yet commented on this, they can now look forward to an appearance at another award ceremony! That's because as People reports, Harry and Meghan will be among the stars present at the NAACP Image Awards.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan to receive award
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will be honoured during the event themselves. It was announced earlier this week that they are this year's recipients of the President's Award for their work with their Archewell Foundation. Before Harry and Meghan, greats like Muhammad Ali, Rihanna, and LeBron James have been presented with the award.
"It's a true honor to be recognized by President Derrick Johnson and the NAACP," the magazine quoted the royals as saying, "whose efforts to propel racial justice and civil rights are as vital today as they were nearly 115 years ago."
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan create special prize
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have even created a whole new award with the NAACP. The NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award is intended to honour leaders who "advance civil and human rights." The first recipient of this special prize will be Dr. Safiya Noble, who has done important work related to systemic discrimination, providing valuable resources for Black women and other women of colour.
The NAACP Image Awards are set to take place in Los Angeles on February 26th. Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will meet numerous well-known stars on the red carpet. Among those expected to attend are Mary J. Blige, Samuel L. Jackson, and Zendaya. Maybe with so much glamour at their first big Hollywood event, the royals will get in the mood for the Oscars!
