It's been a back and forth on the topic of where baby Lilibet will be baptized: in England or the United States?

Now, there seems to be clarity. Lili won't be baptized in the presence of The Queen, but in California. Citing sources at the Palace, The Telegraph has reported: "There will not be a christening in the UK. It is not happening."

Prince Harry and Meghan want baby Lilibet baptized in US

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are said to want Lilibet baptized at The Episcopal Church of the US. It's part of an Anglican communion led by Bishop Michael Curry. For Harry and Meghan, the bishop is an important figure who even spoke at their wedding.

If this is Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's true decision, they would turn their backs on a royal tradition — with an American baptism, Lilibet, who is eighth in line to the throne, would not be a member of the Church of England.

Recently, it was also reported that Prince William rejected the idea of having the baptism in Windsor. Between the couple, meanwhile, Meghan is said to have pushed for the royal baptism in the UK, while Prince Harry is said to prefer an intimate ceremony in the US.

When their son Archie was baptized, the Sussexes attached great importance to privacy and left some royal traditions behind. At that time, only 25 close family members were present at the ceremony.

Lilibet's godparents have not even been announced — quite an unusual move for royals. Since leaving work with the Royal Family, the couple has insisted on their privacy, often at the expense of royal tradition.

A christening in Windsor could ease the rift with the royals, but it now appears unlikely that Harry and Meghan will cross the pond for Lilibet's christening.
