Today, Prince Philip is spending his eighth day in hospital, and Buckingham Palace has now confirmed he's being treated "for an infection." The Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was admitted to hospital in London on Tuesday last week after "feeling unwell," and the latest update is that he's expected to remain there for "several days" more.

Prince Philip's week-long hospital stay has been due to an infection, Buckingham Palace said today.

The 99-year-old Duke is spending his eighth day at King Edward VII's Hospital in London, where "he is receiving medical attention for an infection," a Palace spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday. "He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days," they added.

While The Duke of Edinburgh's hospital admission has been a concern, all updates have been promising up to this time. Today, Prince Edward, the youngest child of Prince Philip and The Queen, also told Sky News: "He's a lot better and he's looking forward to getting out, which is the most positive thing. So we keep our fingers crossed."

The Palace first labelled Philip's admission to hospital last week as a "precautionary measure" as he was feeling "unwell." Over the weekend, Prince Charles visited his father, and, on Monday, Prince William said that "he's ok, they're keeping an eye on him."
