Today, Prince William and Prince Harry came together in memory of their late mother Princess Diana.

It was a small event, attended only by Prince William, Prince Harry, the three siblings of Princess Diana, members of the statue committee, and the team behind the tribute.

Around 4 p.m. local time, the brothers personally unveiled the statue, which had never before been seen by the public. William asked "Ready?" Then, one standing on each side, they uncovered the stunning memorial to their late mother.

A round of applause followed the unveiling. Prince Harry also glanced briefly at his brother before they stepped back to take in a full view of the bronze statue — of Diana resting a caring hand on the shoulders of two children, with another child in behind.

Harry appeared at ease and happy to reunite with his brother and Diana's siblings, while William looked more reserved and solemn on the emotional day. It's been nearly 24 years now since the brothers lost their mother while young boys.

William and Harry share statement on Diana statue

For the occasion, William and Harry released a rare joint statement about Princess Diana, which read: "Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.

"Today, on what would have been our Mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better."

In the statement, the brothers also thanked the team who created the statue and "all those around the world who keep our mother's memory alive."

Thursday marked what would've been Diana's 60th birthday. Next month, it will also have been 24 years since her tragic death at age 36 back in 1997.

And, despite ever-rising tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry, the touching ceremony in memory of their mother of course went ahead without incident.
