While the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging throughout the world, the Princess Royal received some bad news concerning her long-standing patronages last week.

After 77 years, the Animal Health Trust will have to close its doors this week - Princess Anne has been the president of the organization since 1991. The sad news was announced on the veterinarian charity's website last week.

The official statement reads: "It is with deep regret that today we have announced to our colleagues that the Animal Health Trust's Board of Trustees have concluded that the Trust needs to close and next week will formally begin the process to wind-up the AHT."

Princess Anne actually tried to help the charity as soon as she heard about its financial problems, even taking part in a number of Zoom calls to discuss how to secure funding, but there was nothing to be done.

"The decision to cease operations has been reached after several months of trying to secure funding," the statement continued. "Although substantial progress was made, the charity has been unable to secure the significant funds it needs to have a long-term viable future."
