This Is How Princess Diana Felt During Her Wedding To Prince Charles

How Princess Diana Felt On Her Wedding Day To Prince Charles

It was the royal wedding of the 20th century. When Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot in 1981, millions of people around the world watched in awe. But for Diana Spencer, who was only 20 years old at the time, it marked the beginning of what some call a martyrdom in the Royal Family. This is what she revealed in an interview about her wedding day.

What sounded like a modern-day fairy tale was a nightmare for Princess Diana, and her wedding day was no exception. The 15-year marriage to Prince Charles was marked by media scandals involving affairs and emotional distance. But Diana's personal biographer has made it clear: Even the wedding was torture for the Princess of Wales.

Princess Diana knew of Prince Charles's lover Camilla

As Andrew Morton admitted in the documentary The Story of Diana, Lady Diana's rival was Camilla Parker Bowles, who, as it turns out, was a disruptive factor even during the royal wedding. Diana is said to have admitted at the time: "I knew she was in there, of course. I looked for her."

It was an ominous moment for Diana. Morton explained: "When I interviewed Diana for her biography, she told me about the moment she stood at the entrance of St. Paul's Cathedral. She said she had hope brimming in her heart and as she walked down the aisle she looked at Camilla Parker Bowles — who she knew was Prince Charles' mistress."

Diana hoped Charles-Camilla affair would end before wedding

Diana hoped that, by the time of the wedding, the affair between the two would end. But that did not happen and it still hasn't, even to this day. In 2005, following the divorce and eight years after Diana died tragically in a car crash, Charles married Camilla.

But Camilla was not the only thing that drove the former couple apart more and more. Princess Diana also hated it when Prince Charles would rather read books than pay attention to her.
