This Is How The Queen Will Celebrate Her Platinum Jubilee
Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her platinum anniversary next year. The British monarch will have been on the throne for 70 years, and it goes without saying that the milestone will be celebrated — and extensively.
On Feb. 6, 1952, Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne. As a result, the Queen will celebrate her platinum (70th) anniversary in 2022.
Last year, there were first details about the festivities, but there's now finally some new info about the event. As the Daily Mail reveals, the chairman of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Nicholas Coleridge, says it will be the "largest pageant ever put on."
How the Queen will celebrate platinum anniversary in 2022
The Platinum Jubilee is to be celebrated from the 2nd to 5th of June 2022, with the big pageant on the final day. According to Coleridge, the budget for the event is between 10 and 15 million pounds.
Entertainment is also provided: around 6,500 performers will be there. At a Conservative Party conference in Manchester, Coleridge also announced that the Trooping the Colour Parade and a BBC concert will take place.
According to the BBC, over a billion viewers worldwide could watch the spectacle. Coleridge isn't so sure about that, though. "I suspect they may be slightly exaggerating but it's going to be huge because it's going everywhere," he said.
The chairman also expressed a wish for the event: "By the end of it I hope we're going to feel re-energised, highly patriotic and very much one nation as we all celebrate the Platinum Jubilee."
Even if the festivities are still months away, we are already looking forward to the great spectacle for Queen Elizabeth's platinum anniversary — the first in the history of the UK.
